Professional Biography

Juliette Omonigho is a Senior Associate at Osuji & Smith Lawyers with international legal experience spanning multiple jurisdictions, including Canada, Nigeria, and the Gulf region. Recognized for her strong leadership, strategic legal insight, and people-focused approach, Juliette brings a sophisticated and globally informed perspective to complex legal, corporate, and workplace matters.

Her practice includes Civil Litigation, Commercial Transactions, Family Law & Divorce, Wills & Estate Planning, and Employment & Labour Law. Juliette regularly works with individuals, employers, management teams, and businesses navigating legal, operational, and workplace-related challenges. Known for her ability to combine professionalism with warmth and practical problem-solving, she approaches every matter with clarity, precision, and a strong commitment to client success.

Before joining Osuji & Smith Lawyers, Juliette served as one of a select number of in-house counsel at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), one of the Gulf region’s largest oil and gas companies. In this role, she advised on high-level legal, compliance, employment, and contractual matters within a large multinational environment. Her responsibilities included reviewing and negotiating oil and gas contracts, construction agreements, and complex commercial documentation, while also advising staff and management on labour and employment-related issues.

Juliette also played a significant role in legal and compliance matters relating to the termination of a multi-billion-dollar contract involving a foreign company and the application of a bilateral trade treaty. She contributed to the company’s successful involvement in proceedings before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), an achievement she remains especially proud of.

Beyond her legal work, Juliette was part of an award-winning team responsible for her company’s signatory participation in the United Nations Global Compact, becoming the first organization in the Gulf region to do so. The initiative focused on advancing sustainability, labour rights, human rights, environmental responsibility, and anti-corruption principles within corporate operations.

Her leadership extended beyond legal compliance into organizational culture and workplace equity initiatives. Juliette was handpicked to participate in interactive diversity workshops with executive leadership and became actively involved in developing policies aimed at promoting fair workplace practices, equal opportunity, and upward mobility within a workforce representing more than 66 nationalities. She was also the first person in the company’s history to organize and host an all-female employee workshop focused on women’s safety in the workplace and co-hosted several team-building and motivational events within her directorate. Her work and contributions were recognized through internal awards, nominations, and national publications.

Since relocating to Canada, Juliette has continued to build a respected legal career grounded in advocacy, leadership, and mentorship. In addition to representing clients across several practice areas, she currently serves as Board Chair of the Foot In The Door Initiative (FIDI), an organization dedicated to supporting internationally trained lawyers in their transition into the Canadian legal profession. Through this work, she leads transformative mentorship initiatives, cultivates strategic partnerships, and provides guidance to internationally trained professionals navigating their legal careers in Canada.

Juliette also serves as Board Member and Legal Director for Immigrant Champions Canada (ICC) and sits on the Compliance Committee of the Better Business Bureau (BBB), contributing to initiatives focused on marketplace trust, professional standards, and community impact.

Her commitment to mentorship and community leadership has earned her recognition across the legal and professional community, including a nomination as a Mentor of Excellence by the ITL Network and the receipt of a Community Impact Award on behalf of the FIDI team.

Having travelled extensively and worked or volunteered across multiple countries and continents, Juliette brings a unique global perspective and deep understanding of people, culture, and business environments. Clients and colleagues value her for her communication skills, positive energy, professionalism, and ability to build meaningful relationships across diverse communities and industries.

Outside of her legal practice, Juliette enjoys travelling, painting landscapes and portraits, reading, meditation, event design, and creating stylish and functional living spaces. Her creativity, leadership, and passion for people continue to shape both her legal practice and community involvement.

Juliette holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Benin and completed the NCA Equivalency Examinations through the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. She was called to the Bar in both Nigeria and Alberta, and has also completed certifications in Crisis and Event Management and Open Minds Training (Diversity and Inclusion) through the Global Diversity Practice, United Kingdom.
