Dr. Charles Osuji is a Harvard-trained lawyer, executive leader, and trusted advisor to individuals, executives, entrepreneurs, and corporations navigating complex legal and business challenges in today's rapidly evolving economy. A graduate of both Harvard Law School's Leadership in Law Firms (LLF) program and Harvard Business School's Program for Leadership Development (PLD/eMBA), he combines sophisticated legal advocacy with executive-level expertise in leadership, governance, organizational strategy, and institutional growth.

He is the CEO and Managing Partner of Osuji & Smith Lawyers, one of Canada's fastest-growing and most diverse law firms and widely regarded as the country's largest Black-owned law firm. Under his leadership, the firm has grown into a multi-office practice with professionals speaking more than 30 languages and serving individuals, entrepreneurs, employers, executives, corporations, and institutions across a broad range of legal disciplines, including employment law, litigation, business advisory, real estate, family law, and complex commercial matters. With an expanding presence in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Dubai, the firm continues to execute its vision of becoming a leading national Canadian law firm.

Dr. Osuji is a nationally recognized lawyer and business leader whose work has been acknowledged through more than 140 local, provincial, national, and international awards and distinctions recognizing excellence in law, leadership, governance, entrepreneurship, diversity, and community service. After graduating magna cum laude from the Nigerian Law School, and being called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010, he immigrated to Canada, completed the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) process, articled at Osuji & Smith Lawyers (then Smith Law Office), and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2014. Within two years, he became a Partner, and by 2017, sole owner of the firm. Since then, he has led the firm's transformation from a respected local practice into one of Canada's most dynamic and growth-oriented legal institutions. Today, Osuji & Smith employs close to 50 professionals across two Calgary offices, with an expanding footprint in Ontario, British Columbia, and Dubai —leading its transformation into a structured, growth-oriented legal institution.

Before completing his executive education at Harvard, Dr. Osuji earned the prestigious Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation through the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University, one of Canada's highest governance credentials for directors and senior executives. Together, his C.Dir., Harvard Law School, and Harvard Business School credentials reflect a sustained commitment to leadership, governance, strategic thinking, and institutional excellence.

At Harvard Law School, Dr. Osuji completed the Leadership in Law Firms (LLF) executive program, where he studied the leadership of modern professional service organizations, including law firm strategy, governance, organizational design, law firm economics, talent development, client relationships, innovation in legal services, compensation systems, succession planning, and leading organizational change.

He also graduated from Harvard Business School's Program for Leadership Development (PLD)—one of Harvard Business School's premier executive leadership programs and widely recognized as an alternative to a traditional Executive MBA for experienced executives. Through PLD, he received advanced executive training in organizational leadership, corporate strategy, financial accounting, finance, business analytics, marketing, digital transformation, executive decision-making, organizational behaviour, negotiation, competitive strategy, and leading complex organizations.

Collectively, these programs provided a rare opportunity to examine leadership from both the legal and business perspectives while learning alongside accomplished executives from around the world. Beyond his legal practice, Dr. Osuji is deeply committed to strengthening institutions and expanding access to opportunity. He is the Founder of the award-winning Foot in the Door Initiative (FIDI), a nationally recognized mentorship organization that has supported hundreds of internationally trained lawyers, new Canadian lawyers, law students, and emerging professionals as they establish successful careers within the Canadian legal system.

FIDI was born from personal experience. After arriving in Canada with strong academic credentials but no professional network, Dr. Osuji experienced the challenges faced by many internationally trained professionals, including hundreds of unsuccessful job applications. Rather than allowing those experiences to define him, he transformed them into a mission: ensuring that others would have access to the mentorship, encouragement, and opportunities he never had. Today, FIDI continues to create a pipeline of legal talent that strengthens Alberta's legal profession and Canadian society.

His commitment to community extends through The Charles Osuji Foundation, which provides scholarships to students and supports entrepreneurs through grants and mentorship initiatives designed to expand educational and economic opportunity.
