Deborah Pearce is a Senior Associate at Osuji & Smith Lawyers with extensive legal experience across Ontario, British Columbia, and Alberta. Called to the Bar in all three provinces, Deborah brings a thoughtful, client-centered, and solutions-oriented approach to legal advocacy, backed by years of experience in litigation, prosecution, negotiation, and dispute resolution.

Her practice includes Family Law & Divorce, Immigration Law, and Personal Injury Law. Deborah regularly assists individuals and families navigating emotionally sensitive and life-changing legal matters, while also advising clients through complex negotiations, mediation processes, and litigation proceedings. Known for her calm and compassionate approach, she is highly regarded for her ability to listen carefully, communicate clearly, and guide clients through difficult situations with professionalism and care.

Before pursuing law, Deborah worked as a Registered Nurse, an experience that continues to shape her empathetic and people-focused approach to legal practice. Her healthcare background provides her with a unique understanding of the emotional, personal, and practical challenges clients often face during legal disputes, particularly in family and personal injury matters.

Deborah obtained her Law Degree from the University of Windsor in 2005 and has since built a diverse legal career spanning both public service and private practice. Early in her legal career, she worked as a Crown Prosecutor in British Columbia, where she gained valuable courtroom and litigation experience appearing before various levels of court and tribunals.

Throughout her career, Deborah has appeared before the Superior Court, Court of Appeal, Family Court, and numerous administrative tribunals. She also has extensive experience as plaintiff counsel negotiating with insurance companies and successfully resolving claims through discovery, mediation, and strategic settlement negotiations.

Beyond her legal practice, Deborah has remained deeply committed to community service, mentorship, and advocacy. During law school, she volunteered with Access to Justice initiatives, the John Howard Society, and the Welcome Centre for Women and Children. She also contributed to the creation and development of Hiatus House and Street Help initiatives in Windsor.

After graduation, Deborah relocated to Vernon, British Columbia, where she became actively involved in several professional and community organizations. She served as President of the Vernon Bar Association, Executive Board Member of the Vernon Immigration Society, Executive Board Member of the Canadian Mental Health Association, volunteered at the Women’s Shelter, and served as an Executive Member of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Fundraising Committee.

Deborah is passionate about mentorship and strongly believes in giving back to the legal profession and the broader community. She takes pride in supporting upcoming and junior lawyers while also assisting newcomers to Canada as they navigate unfamiliar legal systems and life transitions.

Born in Winnipeg, Deborah raised her family in Ontario, Bahrain, and the United States before ultimately returning to Canada to pursue her legal career. Her international life experience and diverse professional background have contributed to her strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and ability to connect with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

Outside of her legal practice, Deborah enjoys spending time with her family in Calgary and has a passion for the culinary arts, entertaining, reading, travel, and community engagement.
