Professional Biography

Anzhela Said is a Canadian-qualified lawyer and Senior Associate at Osuji & Smith Lawyers, bringing an international background in Immigration, Corporate counsel work, and Cross-Cultural advocacy. Based in Dubai and regularly returning to Canada, Anzhela works with clients from around the world on a broad range of Canadian immigration matters while maintaining a strong connection to the newcomer communities she serves.

Fluent in Ukrainian, Russian, and Pashto, Anzhela is known for her ability to work closely with individuals, families, and professionals navigating complex immigration processes across multiple jurisdictions. Her international experience, multilingual background, and client-focused approach allow her to provide practical legal guidance with clarity, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity.

Before beginning her legal career, Anzhela completed nursing school in Ukraine and worked as a hospital nurse, an experience that helped shape her compassionate and people-centered approach to client service. She later obtained her LL.B. from the Institute of Economics and Law in 1998 and went on to build more than fourteen years of experience as in-house corporate counsel within the oil and gas industry across Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Her extensive corporate background provided significant experience in contracts, regulatory matters, risk management, and cross-border business operations within highly regulated industries. This experience continues to inform her practical and strategic approach when advising clients today, particularly those navigating international mobility, employment, and immigration-related legal matters.

Driven by a strong interest in Indigenous history and reconciliation in Canada, Anzhela later completed Indigenous Canada certificate programs through both the University of Alberta and the University of Toronto.

Anzhela was called to the Alberta Bar in September 2021 and is a member of the Canadian Immigrant Lawyers Association, Global Lawyers of Canada, Immigrant Services Calgary, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (CIArb Arbitrator).

Throughout her legal career in Canada, Anzhela has represented clients before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada on a variety of immigration and family law matters. Her clients value her calm presence, attention to detail, and ability to guide them through stressful legal situations with confidence and care.

Outside of her legal practice, Anzhela remains deeply involved in community service and newcomer support initiatives. She served as an interpreter with Immigrant Services Calgary for more than ten years and was recognized as “Volunteer of the Month” in April 2019. She has also volunteered extensively with Pro Bono Law Alberta and Calgary Legal Guidance and was recognized in 2021 with a Distinguished Service Award for five years of volunteer service with Calgary Legal Guidance.

In addition to her legal and community work, Anzhela enjoys travelling, spending time with family and friends, skating, sledding, swimming, and experiencing different cultures around the world.
