Professional Biography

Shikha Shukla is an Associate at Osuji & Smith Lawyers in Calgary, practising Labour and Employment Law, Civil Litigation, and Business Law. In her years of Canadian practice, she has advised employers and employees across industries on some of the most consequential moments in a working relationship — from hiring to termination, and everything in between.

Shikha's approach is practical and outcomes-focused: resolving disputes through negotiation and mediation where possible, and litigating assertively when required.

For Employers

Running a business means managing people, which can involve legal risk. Shikha advises employers at every stage of the employment relationship, including:

Whether you're navigating a difficult termination, responding to a human rights complaint, or simply want your contracts to actually hold up in court — Shikha provides direct, commercially-minded counsel.

For Employees

Losing a job — or being pushed out of one — is one of the most stressful experiences a person can face. Shikha represents mid- and long-term employees who want to understand their rights and fight for what they're owed:

Most employees don't realize how much more they're entitled to than what's initially offered. Shikha does.

Civil Litigation & Business Law

Beyond employment, Shikha handles a broad range of civil litigation and corporate matters: Civil litigation: breach of contract, landlord-tenant disputes, tort claims, and more — in the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King's Bench, including summary judgment proceedings. Business law: commercial contract review and negotiation, business risk advisory, and transaction support — including involvement in commercial transactions exceeding $1 million.

Outside of practice, Shikha has contributed to The Globe and Mail and has appeared on CBC Radio One discussing employment law issues. She serves on the City of Calgary Anti-Racism Action Committee, and is a Member, Board of Directors of the Foot in the Door Initiative, a nonprofit supporting internationally trained lawyers. She also creates legal educational content on Instagram (@shuklawyer) and through her website (shikhashukla.com), where she shares insights on employment law and workplace issues.
