Janet Momoh is an Associate at Osuji & Smith Lawyers, bringing extensive international legal experience across Public-Sector advocacy, Corporate Commercial matters, Civil Litigation, Criminal Defence, Employment & Labour Law, and Regulatory advisory. Called to the Bars of Alberta, British Columbia, Sierra Leone, and England & Wales, Janet is recognized for her strategic insight, strong advocacy, and ability to navigate complex legal matters with precision and professionalism.

Prior to joining Osuji & Smith, Janet completed her articling program in Edmonton, where she gained hands-on Canadian legal experience across a broad range of matters. Her ability to combine practical legal strategy with strong analytical reasoning allows her to effectively support both individual and organizational clients through complex legal issues.

Janet’s international experience includes serving as State Counsel in Sierra Leone, where she advised government institutions on criminal, civil, commercial, and international law matters. In this role, she represented the government in constitutional and public law proceedings and negotiated high-level agreements involving international organizations such as the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and European Union. She also advised on regulatory compliance, governance, and international obligations.

She later practised in the United Kingdom, focusing on corporate and commercial law, commercial property transactions, and employment matters. Her cross-jurisdictional experience provides her with a sophisticated understanding of legal systems, governance structures, and complex regulatory environments.

She is known for her thoughtful approach, professionalism, and ability to deliver practical legal solutions tailored to each client’s circumstances.

Beyond her legal practice, Janet is deeply committed to leadership and community impact. She serves as pro bono legal counsel with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre and founded two non-profit organizations: Echoes of Hope, which supports newcomers to Canada, and INEDEM, an organization that has provided education, mentorship, and healthcare support to more than 2,000 children in Sierra Leone.

Outside of work, Janet enjoys jogging, reading, and volunteering, reflecting her strong commitment to discipline, lifelong learning, and service.
