Professional Biography

Deborah is a Senior Associate with Osuji & Smith. She is licensed to practice law in Ontario and in Alberta. She graduated from Windsor Law in 2005. She has been called to the bar in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta, and has experience as crown prosecutor as well as family, immigration, and personal injury law. As a former nurse, she has great empathy for her clients and is skilled at listening carefully to their needs and expectations. Deborah values her client’s time and is committed to working towards the best legal resolutions available.
During law school, Deborah actively volunteered with Access to Justice, John Howard Society and the Welcome Centre for Women and children. She assisted in the creation and development of Hiatus House and Street Help where she volunteered in Windsor. After graduation, Deborah moved to Vernon BC and was employed as a Crown Prosecutor and also served as the Vernon Bar Association president, Vernon Immigration Society executive board member, and Canadian Mental Health Association executive board member. In Vernon, she also volunteered at the Women’s Shelter and was an executive member of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Fundraising Committee.
Prior to joining our firm, Deborah had appeared in Superior court, Court of Appeal, family court, duty counsel and various tribunals. She also has many years of experience as plaintiff counsel negotiating with insurance companies and successfully settling claims through discovery and the mediation process
Deborah is gracious to be given the opportunity to assist others with legal issues. Her motto is ‘always give back’…..through mentoring upcoming and junior lawyers and guiding newcomers to Canada through the many legal issues they may face.
Born in Winnipeg, Deborah was a registered nurse and raised her family in Ontario, Bahrain and the US before returning to Canada for law school. Outside of work, Deborah loves to spend time with her family in Calgary and enjoys the culinary arts, entertaining, reading and travel.
