Phil served as Senior Counsel at Osuji & Smith Lawyers, bringing more than 40 years of distinguished litigation experience across complex corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.

Throughout his career, Phil appeared before the courts of Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan, including the Federal Court of Canada and the Supreme Court of Canada. His practice focused primarily on Corporate and Commercial Litigation, Securities Litigation, Insolvency and Restructuring, Bankruptcy matters, Directors’ and Officers’ Liability, Professional Negligence Litigation, and Professional Regulatory Proceedings.

A respected litigator and trusted legal advisor, Phil represented businesses, professionals, and organizations in high-stakes disputes requiring strategic counsel, sound judgment, and decades of courtroom experience.

He is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and practiced in Ontario during the early years of his career. He articled with Chief Justice Bora Laskin of the Supreme Court of Canada in 1979–1980, an experience reflecting the exceptional legal foundation that would shape his decades-long career. In addition to his litigation practice, Phil remained involved in legal education, teaching law at both the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary Faculty of Law.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University of Toronto and also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), in Political Science and History from the University of Saskatchewan.

Phil was called to the Ontario Bar in 1981 and the Alberta Bar in 1988.
